Lieutenant Governors visit to Braddan

In June, the Lieutenant Governor Vice Admiral Sir Paul Haddacks KCB, together with Lady Haddacks visited Braddan Parish Commissioners and met the Chairman, Mrs Margaret Hodge, Commissioners and staff.

After a brief stop at the Commissioners Office for introductions and coffee, the Lieutenant Governor and Lady Haddacks were taken on a tour of the parish accompanied by the Commissioners and well known local historian, Peter Kelly MBE.

The itinerary is below:

1. Injebreck Reservoir.

2. St Lukes Church - The Warden, Mr Tom Cowell MBE gave a tour of the church and this was followed by a walk up to Keeil Abban (Old Tynwald Hill).

3. Union Mills Football Club – They were met by the President of the UMFC, Mr Peter Cain, Mr Stephen Carter and Mrs Judy Watkins. A cheque was presented by UMFC to The Reverend Canon Philip Frear, Chairman of the Braddan Endowment Committee following fundraising over the New Year.

4. Cronkbourne Village, followed by lunch at Cronkbourne House by kind permission of Mr & Mrs Graham Warwick.

5. Braddan School - where they were greeted by the Headmistress, Mrs Oates and met the children.

6. Braddan Cemetery, Kirk Braddan Church and Old Kirk Braddan Church –A tour & history of the churches was given by the Reverend Canon Frear

7. Union Mills and the Railway Station – they were given a history of the village and met Pat Ingram, Project Director from the Probation Service to look at work done at the railway station by young offenders.
